A JOURNEY TO HANG EN CAVE - THE THIRD LARGEST CAVE OF THE WORLD



   You will have to cross a large forest, call a halt nearby a small stream before coming toward the Hang En cave, which is the famous beauty-spot but easier to conquer than Son Doong cave.

   Hang En cave is the third largest cave of the world with an abundant and unique ecosystem. Many adventurous travelers who unregistered to the Son Doong tour can choose this cave to conquer.


The time

    You should plan to explore the cave in the dry season from April to August. At this time, the ground is dry, which is convenient for moving. In the rainy season, flood water will cause the interruption of the trip.


Moving vehicles

    Car: From Hanoi, you go to Groundwater or Yen Nghia Station to buy tickets to go to Quang Binh. The price of a turn is about 150.000 VND or higher depending on the seat types and car manufacturers. In Ho Chi Minh City, the average ticket price is 680.000 VND. You can go to the Eastern bus station to buy tickets.


   Train: The train will stop at Dong Hoi station. The fare from Hanoi to Quang Binh is from 200.000 VND to 750.000 VND and 600.000 VND in Ho Chi Minh City.

   Plane: The trip from Hanoi to Dong Hoi has the average price of about 900.000 VND while the flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Hoi has the price of about 1.350.000 VND.



Day 1: Dong Hoi – Doong village -  Hang En cave



8 a.m: Gathering
   This is the time for you to learn the rules of environmental protection and how to use safety equipments when moving. You should also check the carrying items and add some items if neccessary.

9 a.m: Departing
   From Dong Hoi, you take the road from the west branch of  HCMC to KM 35. Travel time takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

10 a.m: Walking into the primeval forest
   The distance from KM 35 to the Hang En cave is about 8 kilometers long. The road has many ramp segments so you should pay attention to move in order to not lose energy.

Note: You should use  insect repellents before going into forest gate.



12 p.m: Having lunch at Rao Thuong stream
   Rao Thuong or Doong stream derives from Cow tumor mountaintop and some small streams on Truong Son mountain. With the cool water, you can observe living creatures below. In here, you take advantage of lunch, rest and get some water before leaving.

1 p.m: Rao Thuong – Hang En cave
   On the way from Rao Thuong stream to Hang En cave, you will come across Doong village which is a small village of Van Kieu ethnic located deeply in the core area of Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park. While stopping here, you can take a rest to gather strength and learn more about their lives.


3:30 p.m: Being at the Hang En cave
  The Hang En cave was discovered by the British Royal Caving Association expedition in 1994, which has 3 gates. In which, the southeast gate of  the cave is approximately 100 meters wide and is separated by a stone pillar.

    Deeper into the cave, once again you can admire the Rao Thuong stream winding as the S shape. Additionally, it also has a circular sediment sinkhole. So that the light passes through creating miraculous and beautiful scenery. The more you go inside, the more you observe  the stalactites with different shapes or Hang En nests. In sunset, Hang Ens go back to the nests creating a big sound in the mountain and forest.


5 p.m: Having dinner

   Dinner inside the cave is a memorable experience for each member. After this meal, you can organize musical exchanges, games for entertainment or sit together, share the feelings after the journey.


8p.m: Taking a rest

   You should take advantage of the rest to get healthy for a return trip in the next day.



Day 2: Hang En cave -  Doong village – Dong Hoi



6 a.m: Having breakfast
   Breakfast in the cave will give you more energy. At this time, you can take photos or move to the cave gate to admire the pristine forests.

   From here, you go back to the old ways, to the Doong village, have lunch at Rao Thuong stream, come across the forest and go back to Dong Hoi along the Ho Chi Minh road.
